Can Covid-19 Cause Hair Loss

Is COVID-19 the Reason You’re Losing Hair?

Hair loss is actually a common response to extreme stress, both physical (i.e., an illness such as COVID-19) and emotional (i.e., living through a pandemic). People who become ill with COVID-19 can have a wide variety of symptoms. Hair loss has been reported in people who have recovered from COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes hair loss as a potential long-term effect of COVID-19 that’s currently under investigation, and studies have shown that among long-haul symptoms like fatigue, coughs and muscle aches, hair loss has been reported in large numbers too.

Study from Indiana University School of Medicine and Survivor Corps surveyed people who tested positive for COVID-19 about lasting symptoms and health impacts, and a little more than 33% reported hair loss among their symptoms according to the pre-print, which has yet to be peer reviewed.

Why Could COVID-19 Cause Hair Loss?

A survey revealed that more than a third of the 1,700 respondents say they’ve had hair loss after enduring COVID-19. People who are experiencing long-lasting symptoms  are known as “long-haulers”. Long-lasting symptoms often include: hair loss, coughing, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, headaches, muscle aches and diarrhea, and the most significant symptom that is being seen across the board in coronavirus long-haulers is fatigue. Often times those people feel very run down and tired.

Many people who have recovered from COVID-19 experience hair fall because the physical and emotional stress that accompanies a case of COVID-19 can lead to a reversible hair loss condition called Telogen Effluvium (TE). Telogen Effluvium Hair Loss is reported that comes on suddenly and typically falls out in large clumps, often while brushing or showering. In the telogen phase, hairs rest for 2 to 3 months before being shed from your scalp to allow for new hair growth. This is why hair loss due to TE happens so long after a triggering event, such as an illness or highly stressful period.

The results can be dramatic, especially after washing or brushing your hair. The hair follicles are loose and the full length of the hair falls out easily. For some people, hair will appear as if it’s coming out in clumps. You may not notice the thinning until you lose a lot of hair.

Covid-19 and Hair Loss connection

Coping with Hair Loss

Is hair loss associated with severe COVID-19? Well it’s possible for the two connections, but there’s needed to determine how hair loss may be associated with COVID-19 from further investigation. When the cause of your hair shedding is due to a fever, illness, or stress, hair tends to return to normal on its own. You just have to give it time as hair grows back slowly, you’ll notice short hairs that are all the same length by your hairline. Most people see their hair regain its normal fullness within 6 months. Also we are here to recommend a solution called Laser Cap, which utilizes LLLT technology  to restore hair loss, rejuvenate the follicles, and regrowth thicker fuller hair by wearing it for 30 minutes every other day. Hair loss is reversible once you take actions. Start your hair growth journey with the effective, safe hair treatment.
